Scalable Network Security Management Solutions

Program Overview

Over the last several years, colleges and universities have been upgrading and expanding their internal networks and Internet access capabilities for students and staff.  As the user volume scales to thousands per campus security risks and abnormal behavior present a challenge for the university.

College students will inevitably participate in public network forums, BBS, blogs and generate web pages containing information, statements and speeches expressing their opinion on many subjects including politics.  A portion of the student body may participate illegal Internet activities (such as cults, gangs, political groups, anti-government, fraud, etc.), and jeopardize the university’s reputation and create legal risks.

Online games and chatting with friends is the standard norm for most college students.  The growing use and unpredictability of P2P applications including eDonkey, online movies college courseware and expansive multi-media downloads is constantly straining the universities network.  OfficeTen security and network management products and solutions can curb this growing network and technical threat.

Typical OfficeTen Networking Structure

The program is designed to create a distributed deployment of centralized management policy. The entire program is divided into two modules; one is the control module and one management platform module. The monitoring module and OfficeTen network behavior management terminal equipment is deployed in the network of branches of universities, such as classroom buildings, student dormitory, office buildings, and libraries. The system collects data collection for analysis. The administrator can implement policies from the management platform module via a Web browser and the OfficeTen Security Operation Management system (SOC). The OfficeTen SOC can be deployed at the technical center of the campus computer room or at any node in the Internet, such as the administrators Internet Data Center (IDC).

Program Features

  • Real-time online monitoring and management

The administrator can access SOC and view in real time all levels of the terminal connections, working conditions, and prevent equipment failures. The administrator can monitor whether the network connection is lost or manually disconnected and ensure the network is in a secure state.

  • Implement a Unified Policy

SOC is the monitoring device for the remote centralized control and can implement a unified control policy without the need to log on and configure each single device.  The administrator will be able to confirm that each device is compliance with the policy.

  • Control of illegal dissemination of information

The administrator can receive timely alerts on the misuse of the dissemination of information. Blog, e-mail, Web chat and keyword filtering, illegal actions or statements can be monitored and recorded through SOC.  These records can be used for identification, legal proof and prosecution if necessary.

  • Filter inappropriate content

The administrator can implement filtering policies and limit or block access to inappropriate URL’s, web pages, pornography, violence, reactionary and other harmful content.

  • Block non-productive network behavior

The administrator can implement polices which restrict or deny during various time periods or online chat, online movies, online games and non-educational related content.

  • Bandwidth allocation

The administrator can limit, set time schedules or prohibit various applications to ensure educational content has appropriate bandwidth for dissemination. Policies can be enabled for different individuals, classes, applications that require a reasonable amount of bandwidth. For example you can allow students to use P2P software, but can control and manage the P2P bandwidth allocating a reasonable amount of bandwidth resources. In addition, courseware transmission, multi-media teaching and other important educational application can have to guaranteed bandwidth and set priorities over other applications.

  • Statistic Reports

The system generates several statistical reports on Internet traffic and network activity from every point of view of the campus network. This statistical information can be utilized to effectively manage the network.

  • Web filtering and attack risk prevention

The system can filter and prevent viewing of high-risk sites; file downloads that contain Internet viruses, Trojan infection. ARP also provides anti-fraud, anti-DDOS attacks and other to ensure overall network security.
